The official history of the Kirovograd city starts from 1754, the year in which the fortress of St. Elizabeth was laid. The settlement nearby fortress began its way to city. The historical name of Kirovohrad is Yelisavetgrad (up to 1924), Zinoviev (up to 1934), Kirov (up to 1934), the modern name city received in January 10, 1939. The main sectors of Kirovograd economy are mechanical engineering, light and food industry, significant place belong to the mining sector. The largest enterprises in the city: of "Krasnaya Zarya", JSC "Hydrosila Group", JSC "Kirovogradmaslo".
